The alarm that woke Meadhbh so abruptly that her forehead smashed into the edge of her bedside table as she tried to sit up. The table was a few centimeters taller than her mattress and she knew that she should saw down the legs, but she could never quite find the time, so she had to deal with occasionally smacking her forehead on it every now and then. Her hand switched off the alarm and she stumbled to her feet. Upon entering the bathroom, connected to her own bedroom, she caught her reflection in the mirror and let out a groan. The hit had left an angry red welt and broken the skin enough so that a trickle of blood ran over the side of her face. Great start to the day, she thought as she started to clean herself up.
Clothed and finally fully awake now, with a bandage plastered to the side of her head, she left for Broadgate. She would have to walk there, not having a car of her own, but there was a cafe there that was worth the effort. The few people that she passed, either on the street or in their cars, gave her odd looks. They probably thought the bandage was the result of a fight and it made her feel more powerful, with strangers thinking that she was dangerous. Of course, she was, but she wasn't about to attack someone right out of the blue.
When she entered the cafe, she was greeted with smiles and joyful "Hello"s. She was a regular at the place, for it had the most wonderful food. The wolf approached the counter, smiling kindly at the new cashier who had started working there since last month. "Hot chocolate and crepe?" the woman behind the counter asked, it was what the were usually ordered. Meadhbh nodded softly then added, "And a bottle of water." The cashier returned the nod with a quiet smile.
Her order was filled quickly, since there weren't too many people there at six in the morning, and she took the food to a double table by one of the large glass windows. As she began to eat, she watched the sparse amount of people that walked past on the sidewalks. She liked to play a game with guessing the race of everyone that moved by. Their normal scents didn't permeate the glass or through the door, so she had to infer the races based solely on appearance. The vampires were easy enough to spot; they had a more sallow, mean look. But the wolves and humans were harder to distinguish, unless a were had gone through a transformation the night before, their eyes took on a sort of lividness.
One man that was starting to approach the cafe caught her attention. He had the most interesting visage she had seen in a while. He reminded her slightly of a magician, with his pointed black beard and moustache, and cropped black hair. This helped her very little in determining his race, though she guessed he may be human. Either way, he would be an interesting character to talk to.
